Tragedy struck yesterday when the bodies of Late Air vice Marshall Olufunsho Martins (retd) and his driver have been retrieved from the Lagos Lagoon by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local divers.
The Ford Explorer Sports Utility Vehicle which the retired air force officer and his driver were travelling in somersaulted late Saturday night and plunged into the muddy section of the Lagos Lagoon. It wasn’t until early Sunday morning that the vehicle was brought out with both occupants dead.
According to reports, the Late Martins was said to be going to his Funsho Martin’s Avenue, Park View Estate, when the vehicle collided with another, at about 10.55pm, Saturday. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted before it plunged into the lagoon.
His true identity was revealed through an identity card found inside the vehicle after it was brought out. Both bodies were thereafter, taken to the Nigerian Airforce Hospital, Ikeja.
