Transparency, Delivery of Good Governance to Nigerians Is Buhari’s Priority – Oladele; RMAFC Commissioner

A Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Pharm Oladele Gboyega assured Nigerians that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is not leaving any stone unturned in the delivering its Next Level mandate to the people.

Gboyega who represents the State of Osun in the commission explained that so far, the agency has been able to work assiduously to block all leakages in a bid to increase the revenue base of the government.

“The present commission is doing wonderfully well and we are on the path to ensure that transparency becomes the watchword in the entire operations of the government especially with all the revenue generating agencies of government; the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Customs, the NNPC, all of them including the solid minerals because we have a new initiative on solid minerals launched by Mr President recently.”

“We don’t want saboteurs and miscreants to dominate the system. Government has stepped up monitoring activities to make sure that both locals and foreigners most importantly those that have bastardised the system and were mostly arrested in the state during the COVID-19 lockdown for involving in illegal gold mining. I think by and large, it could be very slow but transparency is coming to the system and people are alive to the responsibility.”

“With the government stepping up activities; the EFCC and others going after these criminals, transparency is brought to the conduct of government business. I can assure you that we are doing well in that provision. The mandate has been given to us by Mr President to ensure that we carry out all those things in line with the yearnings and aspirations of our people.”

Gboyega told newsmen that the government is considering the review of remuneration of political office holders in line with the post-COVID economic plans. The Federal Commissioner assured that the recommendations will be released to the public soon.

“We are mindful that because of the pandemic, there are provisions of the law that have made it mandatory for us to look into the issues of remuneration of political office holders in line with current realities. That is why there was an announcement that there was going to be a review of the salary. A lot of people have expected us to act. We are looking at so many indices to factor into where the balance will swing.”

“Clearly, we have committees working on it, I am a member of the committees and we are working round the clock looking at all the parameters that determines the value of the wages and remuneration the political office holders earn as well. We are looking at all those details. I can assure you that in the soonest possible time, the remuneration review will be concluded and the recommendations be made public.”
