2. Stop Blaming Tinubu for Defections, Ex-Osun Lawmaker Tells Opposition Parties

A former Osun State House of Assembly member, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for the recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Sunday, Oyintiloye, who represented Obokun State Constituency on the APC platform, said the opposition should instead focus on resolving their internal party problems.

He explained that the defections are the result of ideological alignment and personal conviction, not coercion.

“The movement of members from one party to another is not unusual in a democracy. What we are witnessing is largely due to unresolved internal disputes within the opposition parties,” he said.

Oyintiloye added that while the APC’s appeal is growing, opposition parties are losing members due to internal wrangling and lack of democracy.

He called on opposition leaders to work on genuine reconciliation rather than blaming the ruling party.

“So many defectors claimed that they were sidelined, undermined, unfairly treated by their former parties, leaving them with no option but to switch to a party with a sustainable transformation agenda.

“This season of political recalibration that is leading to the growing number of Nigerian politicians defecting en masse to the ruling APC is an indication that the party has shown courage in being capable of transforming the country through the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the president.

“Mr. President has shown commitment to prioritise national development and create a more viable platform. That is winning members into the APC fold,” he said.

He predicted more defections from opposition parties, especially PDP, warning that “PDP should not blame the President or APC for its lack of cohesion.”

He also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the wave of defections of members of the opposition parties to APC could lead to one party system.
