1. Osun Osogbo Festival: Police Assures Safety
Osun State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures for the grand finale of the 2025 Osun Osogbo Festival.
The grand finale of the festival will hold on Friday, August 8, 2025.
The annual cultural event is expected to attract numerous tourists and dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad, with a series of traditional activities planned throughout the day.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command assured residents and tourists of a peaceful celebration.
“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, is using this medium to inform the general public of the level of preparedness and stringent security apparatus emplaced by the command,” the statement read.
The statement also assured that to ensure public safety, the Police Command has ordered the deployment of tactical units, additional personnel, and logistics support across strategic locations in the Osogbo metropolis.
“He has equally emplaced a unit of Mobile Police personnel on standby in case of any eventuality,” the statement added.
Parents and guardians were urged to warn their children and wards against acts of hooliganism, thuggery, or gangsterism, which will not be tolerated during the celebration.
“Any person or group of persons found in possession of arms or any offensive weapon/instrument of violence will be arrested and prosecuted,” the command warned.
The police appealed to members of the public to provide timely and credible information regarding any suspicious activity through a dedicated control room and Complaint Response Unit, CRU, numbers.

2. Osun-Osogbo Festival: Amotekun Deploys 500 Operatives For Security
As preparations peak for the grand finale of the 2025 Osun-Osogbo International Festival scheduled for this Friday, the Osun Amotekun Corps has deployed 500 operatives to ensure a safe and hitch-free celebration.
The festival, recognized by UNESCO as a cultural heritage event, draws thousands of tourists from across Africa, the diaspora, and traditional religion adherents from around the world.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, announced that the Commandant, Adekunle Omoyele, had taken proactive measures to secure all festival-related activities before and during the event.
According to Omoyele, Amotekun operatives will be strategically stationed at major festival venues, key routes, and public gathering points. He emphasized the corps’ readiness to carry out both visible and undercover security operations to maintain law and order throughout the celebrations.
He also issued a stern warning to individuals or groups with criminal intent, stating that any attempt to disrupt public peace or engage in unlawful activity will be met with the full force of the law.
3. Osun 2026: Ogunbiyi Woos APC Leaders Ahead Of Governorship Primary
A governorship aspirant, Akin Ogunbiyi, has met with All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and party leaders in Osun State as part of strategic consultations to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2026 election.
The meeting, which took place at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office, was aimed at rallying grassroots support for his ambition.
Ogunbiyi reiterated his commitment to transforming Osun into Nigeria’s most prosperous state through a robust focus on agriculture and mining.
Speaking after the session, Ogunbiyi described the engagement as fulfilling, noting that he officially informed the leaders of his intention and was warmly received.
“This is my third time contesting for governor in Osun, so I’m not new to the party or its structures. I was well received, and we had fruitful discussions on how to strengthen the APC and secure the party’s ticket. By God’s grace, if we get the ticket, we’ll win the 2026 election,” he said.
