The Nigerian military has arrested seven Boko Haram suspects and recovered arms and ammunition from the suspects in various operations.
Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Texas Chukwu in a statement on Saturday said one of the suspects was arrested after allegedly discussing on phone about plans to move arms and ammunition for Boko Haram terrorists.
He added that another suspect was arrested after a tip-off by local hunters.
“Troops of operation Lafiya Dole on Friday neutralised suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Barkin Dutse area of Adamawa State following a distress call from hunters. The terrorists on sighting the troops opened fire which resulted in exchange of fire.
“Five Boko Haram terrorists were neutralised while some escaped into nearby caves during the encounter. Also, one hunter lost his life during the operation,” he said.
Troops of 33 Artillery Brigade in another operation on April 5, 2018 arrested one Saidu Hamidu Jenga, aged 33, along Maiduguri bye pass, Bauchi in connection with Boko Haram activities.
“The suspect was allegedly overheard discussing about the movement of arms and ammunition on phone. Items recovered include one techno phone with two sim cards as well as N6,870,” he said.
Chukwu added that troops of operation Lafiya Dole also arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist identified as Umar Ali.
Ali who is aged 59 is said to be from Mirnga village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno state. He was arrested at Galdimare ward in Biu town.
Weapons recovered from the suspects include five AK 47 rifles and five magazines loaded with 22 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition.
