Truck Drivers Arraigned For Alleged Attempted Mob Action On Osun FRSC Patrol Team

The Osun State police command on Monday reportedly arraigned three members of the Allied Truck Transport Association of Nigeria (ATTAN), for alleged attempted mob action on the patrol team of the Osun State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The suspects whose names were given as Olatunde Nasurudeen, Abdul-lateef Raheem, and Abdullazeez Mudasiru were arraigned before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara of Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo.

According to a statement by the Sector Commander, Mr Leye Adegboyega, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, the incident happened on Saturday, August 09, at the front of government secretariat, Abere.

The statement noted that the patrol team detailed along the Osogbo-Sekona route about 10. a.m., stopped a mini truck with registration number APM499XA, whose driver was not using his seatbelt as required by law.

The statement said the vehicle was flagged down, with officials of the FRSC issuing a Notice of Offence ticket for the violation, and the driver’s licence was confiscated pending payment of the fine into the Government Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The statement alleged that instead of collecting the ticket, “the driver refused to collect the ticket and instead, being a member of the Allied Truck Transport Association of Nigeria (ATTAN), mobilized his union members to the scene.”

“A few minutes later, a mob of about Fifty (50) men arrived on the scene in the union’s vehicles and blocked the road, causing a serious obstruction and disrupting public peace, while preventing the team from carrying on with its lawful duty,” the statement noted.

The statement said the patrol team leader informed the Sector Commander, who promptly invited the Nigeria Police Force, Ataoja Division, Osogbo, to douse the tension.

“However, the hoodlums were adamant and even attempted to attack and disarm the Policemen. This is more so as the union members have been identified as breakers of traffic laws who see themselves as being above the law.

“Therefore, rather than listen to reason, some of the union members and their executives, who had flagrantly displayed untamed aggression, began poking fingers in the Sector Commander’s face, querying the authority of the Command to contravene their members for breaking traffic laws.

“They even threatened to attack the Sector Commander in the course of the disturbance.
Following the barrage of provocative utterances and threats, three of the culprits were eventually arrested by the Police and the case was formally documented at the Nigeria Police Force, Ataoja Division, Osogbo,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the statement said the suspects were arraigned on three counts of
Obstruction of public highway, conspiracy, and breach of public peace.

The statement added that Magistrate Ayilara admitted them to bail in the sum of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) each and sureties with reasonable means within the jurisdiction of the Court.

The case was adjourned to 25 September 2025 for trial.
