Trump Breaks Silence on Elon Musk’s Exit, Public Rebuke
United States President Donald Trump has expressed disappointment in Elon Musk, following the billionaire’s sharp criticism of his administration’s tax policies and decision to quit his government.
Musk, who served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, recently announced his departure without prior notice to the President.
According to Reuters, Musk’s resignation came amid growing tensions, especially after he publicly opposed Trump’s signature tax legislation—dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill”—calling it a “bloated mess” and urging Congress to scrap it.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO was reportedly upset over the bill’s removal of Biden-era tax incentives for electric vehicles and its projected increase to the national deficit.
Speaking at the Oval Office before a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump said Musk had always backed the bill while in government and only turned against it after leaving.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” Trump told reporters.
“He hasn’t said anything bad about me personally yet, but I’m sure that’s coming. I’m very disappointed. I’ve helped Elon a lot.
“Some people leave my administration and become hostile later. I don’t know what it is—maybe Trump Derangement Syndrome. They miss the spotlight, the glamor fades, and they start attacking.”
Musk has not responded publicly to Trump’s comments at the time of filing this report.
