Trump Threatens 50% Tariff On Countries Supplying Weapons To Iran
US President Donald Trump has warned that any country supplying weapons to Iran will face a 50 percent tariff on all goods exported to the United States.
The President made the statement on Truth Social on Wednesday following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran the previous night.
“A country supplying military weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!” Trump wrote.
In a separate post, he added that sanctions relief for Iran will be discussed, noting that many elements of a 15-point plan have already been agreed.
Earlier, both the US and Tehran had indicated that a 10-point plan proposed by Iran would form the basis for negotiations.
The plan covers issues such as uranium enrichment, payment of compensation, withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and lifting of all sanctions.
Trump also said the US would work with Iran to locate and remove buried uranium in the country.
European leaders have urged the US and Iran to quickly reach a diplomatic resolution.
In a joint statement, they said, “We strongly encourage quick progress towards a substantive negotiated settlement.”
The statement also called for full implementation of the ceasefire, including in Lebanon, where Israel continues to carry out multiple strikes.
