Two Ex-Convicts Arrested In Osun For Kidnapping, Robbery
The Osun State Police Command has arrested two ex-convicts for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and robbery.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adeoye Akeem Adeola, said the suspects, Wasiu Kehinde (41) and Yusuf Makinde Idris (29), were apprehended on Monday, 3rd March 2025, around 7:20 am, after attempting to rob and abduct a female passenger in Ikire.
According to the police spokesperson, the victim had boarded a vehicle in Ikire, believing it to be a normal commercial trip to Osogbo.
However, upon reaching Balogun area, she was held hostage by three men posing as passengers.
The suspects tied her hands and legs, blindfolded her, and forcefully took her phone, ATM card, and cash.
SP Adeoye further stated that while attempting to escape, the suspects made a U-turn towards Ibadan, but their vehicle got involved in an accident upon returning to Balogun area, Ikire.
It was learnt that the victim seized the moment to raise an alarm, which attracted the attention of security operatives and members of the public. The timely intervention of the police led to the arrest of Kehinde and Idris, while a third suspect remains at large.
Recovered exhibits include a Mitsubishi Space Wagon with registration number MUS 495 JR, an Android Huawei phone, and a piece of cloth.
The suspects, according to the police, confessed to the crime and will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
In a separate development, the police spokesperson revealed that officers from Ikire Division also arrested one Sunday Kayode Abiodun (30) for allegedly burgling the ATC Network site at Unity area, Ikire, on 2nd January 2025.
The suspect, alongside others still at large, allegedly stole 15 inverter batteries valued at ₦75 million.
He was eventually apprehended when he returned to the site on 15th January in an attempt to steal solar batteries used for powering the communication mast.
Further investigations, according to SP Adeoye, led to the arrest of five more suspects: Akeem Sakariyau (42), Bankole Monsuru (29), Akanbi Femi (38), Balogun Lateef (30), and Ojetola Abdulganiyu (47).
Recovered items include an Opel car with registration number EPE 96 HN, a pipe wrench, cutting pliers, a screwdriver, an OPC ID card, a UBA ATM card, and a reflective jacket.
The police command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect in the kidnapping case, as well as those who received the stolen telecom equipment.
