Two Fighting: Woman Gets Three Months Jail Term

A middle-aged woman, Adeyanju Adejoke has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by a magistrate court sitting in Osogbo over alleged assault.
The accused person who was facing two count charges pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against her.
The accused person was arraigned on February 20, 2018 over alleged beating up of one Sherifat Adebayo on a minor issue between her and the complainant.
The charge sheet made available to journalist revealed that the accused person damaged one lace shirt valued N7,000, one plastic cooler valued N3,500, a pair of earring valued N3,700, one hand chain valued N5,000 and a Tecno phone valued N40,750, all totaling N62,450 property of one Sherifat Adebayo.
The accused person admitted slapping the complainant because she marched her with her heel and in the process it led to fighting, the aforementioned property got lost and damaged.
Defence counsel, Mr. S.O Popoola urged the court to tempe justice with mercy because no one will be assaulted and would not retaliate.
He also stressed that the court should consider her client because she is still nursing a baby and she has learnt her lesson and sober now.
He asked the court for an option of fine and it should be a minimum fine.
In his judgement, Magistrate O.T Badmus found Adejoke guilty of the first count and dismissed the second count due to insufficient evidence provided by the prosecutor.
He later sentenced her to three months imprisonment with an option of fine in the sum of N10,000.
