Two suspects, Adeshina Sulaiman, 41, and Oladele Musiliu 32, have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate court for assaulting a police officer. According to the charge sheet, the accused persons among themselves conspired to commit misdemeanour to wit, assault and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 517 of the criminal code of Osun state law 2003.
It also disclosed that the accused did beat up the officer with force number F/No. 9606 G.II Abiodun Bamidele while on a mobile court duty, an offence contrary to and punishable under section 356(5) of the state criminal law.
The charge sheet also stated that the accused persons, did maliciously tore the official uniform of the victim attached to mobile court while performing his lawful duty and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 451 of the state penal code.
It also disclosed that the accused persons conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by beating the victim while on duty in open contrary to and punishable under section 249(D) of the criminal code law of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.
According to the charge sheet the accused persons committed the offences on September 6, 2017 at Open University area Oke-Ayepe Osogbo.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them. Defence counsel, Mrs. Raji Abiodun urged the courts to grant the accused persons bail on liberal terms and assured the court that her client would provide credible surety to stand on their behalf.
However, police Prosecutor Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq did not oppose the application of bail. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Oloyade admitted the suspects to bail.
