Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe has explained why his team defeated Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League tie.
Howe watched as goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar gave Newcastle the win over PSG at St. James’ Park.
Speaking after the game, Howe suggested Newcastle won against PSG because his players gave a brilliant display against the French Ligue 1 giants.
According to him, Newcastle players pressed Luis Enrique’s side and were successful a couple of times.
“We are really pleased. It was a brilliant effort from the players,” Howe told CBS Sports.
“It was a different game. It was a cat and mouse between the two, we were trying to press them and they were trying to play through us.
“We were successful a couple of times which led to big goals for us, so I am delighted with the players’ commitment.”
“I think we came here with a lot more confident mood. We wanted to be ourselves and then take the result whatever it is,” he added.
The win over PSG means Newcastle now top Group F with four points from two games.
