UI Medical Student Dies After Alleged Insecticide Ingestion
A 300-level medical student of the University of Ibadan, identified as Ifeoluwa Akinmade, has reportedly died after allegedly ingesting a harmful substance on Sunday night.
The incident occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall on the university campus.
A fellow student was said to have discovered him on the ground floor of the hostel, frothing at the mouth and in a distressed condition.
He allegedly admitted to consuming an insecticide known as “Sniper” before losing consciousness.
His roommates reportedly alerted hall authorities, who arranged for his immediate transfer to Jaja Clinic through the Students’ Union bus service.
He was stabilised with oxygen and intravenous fluids before being referred to the emergency unit of the University College Hospital, where he was placed on life support.
The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Funmi Adetuyibi, confirmed the death, stating that despite medical intervention, the student did not survive.
University authorities are yet to issue an official statement.
