The remote cause of the death of Professor Ademola Babalola who was the former head of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife is yet to be known after a week his corpse was found in his residence.
Our correspondent learnt that the Professor died in his room last week Wednesday and his body was recovered after his neighbours discovered his phone was unreachable.
According to a close source of the Professor who craved anonymity said that, ” After the day’s work, he went home and all we heard was that his corpse was found on his bed two days later.”
Abiodun Olarewaju, the University’s Public Relations Officer denied rumours that the deceased was stabbed to death.
“When the news came to us, the security officers of the University went to his residence and had to force the door of the professor’s room to open.
“The cause of the death is still unknown as we await the result of the autopsy,” he said.
Also, a lecturer and a close friend of the late lecturer, Olabisi Ayodele, said that,” Professor Babalola drove himself home and laid on his couch. He was found dead in his apartment.
“He was not stabbed to death but what we are suspecting is heart failure.”
