The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Headquarters has dissolved the lingering factional crisis within the Joint Campus Council (JCC) in Osun State, a decision that has sent shockwaves through the state’s student community.
In a directive issued on Friday, NANS National President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, expressed deep concerns over the turmoil that has engulfed the JCC structure in Osun State.
He lamented that the internal divisions had tarnished the reputation of the association, describing the situation as “retrogressive and damaging to the collective integrity of Nigerian students.”
The directive, addressed to the Coordinator of NANS Zone D (Southwest), Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, called for the immediate dissolution of all factional groups operating under the guise of the JCC in Osun State.
Comrade Emonefe emphasized that such divisions were contrary to the principles of unity, integrity, and progress that the association upholds.

“In a bid to restore normalcy, the immediate past Chairman of the JCC in Osun State has been tasked with overseeing the council’s affairs during this transitional period. This decision is expected to ensure stability and continuity pending the reconstitution of a new leadership structure.
“Furthermore, the NANS National President directed the Zone D leadership to constitute a neutral and impartial Convention Planning Committee (CPC) to oversee the election of new JCC leadership within 21 days.
“The committee is mandated to ensure a transparent and credible process, devoid of bias or allegiance to any faction.
Reactions
The announcement has elicited mixed reactions from stakeholders in the state’s student community. While some hail the decision as a bold move towards unity, others have expressed skepticism, citing concerns over the impartiality of the election process and the potential for renewed conflict.
A student leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the directive as “long overdue.”
According to him, the lingering crisis had left students disillusioned and weakened the council’s ability to advocate for their welfare effectively.
“We hope this action will finally put an end to the power tussle and bring genuine unity to the JCC in Osun State,” he remarked.
However, some factions within the council have expressed reservations about the dissolution, arguing that it unfairly targets certain groups while leaving others unscathed.
A factional leader who craved anonymity criticized the directive, accusing the national leadership of being biased in its handling of the crisis.
The NANS National President, in his statement, urged all stakeholders to prioritize the unity and progress of students in the state, stressing that the association would not hesitate to take further actions if necessary.
“We must act decisively to safeguard the sanctity of NANS and protect the interests of the students we represent,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Osun Defender reports that the coming weeks will be crucial as the Convention Planning Committee sets the stage for a new leadership election.
Whether this move will bring lasting peace or further deepen the crisis remains to be seen. All eyes are now on the NANS leadership to ensure that this intervention marks the beginning of a new era for the JCC in Osun State.
