The students of UNIBEN said the call became necessary following the alleged poor services rendered to their colleague in UBTH, Gerald Azubuike, a 300-level student of the department of Philosophy at the hospital before his death.
According to them, with a proper management in place, the hospital will be able to deliver quality medical services to the people.
The students took their protest from the University of Benin gate to the premises of UBTH.
One of the students, Manase Agbonlahor, said, “We have situations where students are not well-attended to by the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
“Just imagine, two weeks ago, our colleague died after a surgery that took place on Thursday at the hospital.”
Agbonlahor blamed the Azubuike’s death on the lack of essential drugs and equipment at the hospital, including hand gloves.
The management of the hospital, however, denied the allegations made by the students, insisting that it renders quality services.
The Chairman of the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Casimir Omuemi, said, “The hand gloves are supplied at all major points of the hospital, in the theatres, in the words and even in the outpatient department.
“Again, UNIBEN students come and they are well attended to without payment because the school pays for them. So, those allegations are untrue.”
