Dr A.J. Oteri, Chairman, National Measles and Yellow Fever Technical Committee, disclosure on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) is set to begin Yellow Fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Sensitisation Campaign on Nov. 22 in Plateau State.
Oteri said that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency appreciated the government and the state team in improving the health of its citizens, especially as regards immunisation.
He described Yellow Fever as “deadly disease’’ that should not be taken lightly but seriously to prevent the untimely deaths being recorded in the country.
“Plateau is scheduled to implement a Yellow Fever Preventive Mass Vaccination Sensitisation Campaign on Nov. 22, and ends Dec. 1, in the 17 Local Government Areas.
“Various advocacy and sensitisation meetings have been scheduled to create demands for the campaign and reduce the occurrence of non-compliance, ’’ he stated.
According to the chairman, there is the need for urgent and proactive measures to be taken by the Federal Government and all States’ Ministries of Health to arrest the Yellow Fever epidemic ravaging the country.
He explained that one of such advocacy meetings was a four-day workshop which began on Oct. 30, through Nov. 2, at Bolton White Hotel, Abuja.
