Unilesa Management Refutes Report of Arresting Graduate Protesting Delay in NYSC Mobilisation
•Says Institution Yet To Graduate Its First Set Of Students
The management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, has dismissed a media report that it ordered the arrest of a graduate of the institution, Mr Temitope Adedoyin, following a protest over an alleged delay in his mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
A statement by the Registrar of the University, Funso Ojo, said the report is inaccurate and potentially misleading, adding that the University is yet to graduate its first set of students, as the pioneer cohort admitted in 2023 is currently in their third year of study.
The statement noted that Adedoyin completed a programme formerly run by the defunct Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, prior to the establishment of the University of Ilesa.
“The attention of the Management of the University of Ilesa has been drawn to a media report alleging that a graduate of the University, Mr Adedoyin Temitope (also referred to as Aregbe), was arrested following a protest over an alleged delay in his mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“The University wishes to clarify that the report is inaccurate and potentially misleading. The University of Ilesa is yet to graduate its first set of students, as the pioneer cohort admitted in 2023 is currently in their third year of study.

“Available records indicate that the individual referenced in the report completed a programme formerly run by the defunct Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, prior to the establishment of the University of Ilesa. Issues relating to his NYSC mobilisation are understood to be connected to the regularisation of his admission with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a process that is not directly within the control of the University,” the statement noted.
The statement further said, “Notwithstanding, the University, through its Student Affairs Division, has been engaging relevant stakeholders to provide necessary guidance and support toward an amicable resolution of the matter.
“The Management of the University of Ilesa remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, due process, and respect for the rights of all individuals. The institution will continue to operate within the ambit of the law while fostering a peaceful and conducive academic environment.”
