Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Thursday matriculated about 8,000 fresh students at its 17th matriculation ceremony.
The event held across the six campuses of the institution was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Adebooye.
Deans of the four faculties represented at the event presented their students for matriculation, with the university’s Registrar, Mr. Gafar Shittu, leading the freshers to take the matriculation oath.
In his address, Prof. Adebooye congratulated the students on their success in the recently concluded admission process. He emphasized that the pursuit of a first degree involves challenges and encouraged the students to contribute their best to make both the university and their parents or guardians proud.
Prof. Adebooye highlighted the university’s commitment to excellence, providing quality education, and excelling in research and integrated science.
He underlined the institution’s values of integrity, discipline, and moral uprightness, firmly standing against cultism, indecent dressing, drug abuse, and sexual harassment, with perpetrators facing primary dismissal.
The Vice-Chancellor announced the forthcoming release of a colloquium before the first-semester examinations outlining rules and regulations governing learning and examinations.
He emphasized strict penalties for violating rules and informed students of the availability of a student handbook and a guide on sexual harassment at various departments.
Regarding scholarships, Prof. Adebooye informed students about opportunities for both excellent and indigent students.
He encouraged them to approach the Division of Students Affairs (DSA) for inquiries, and proper application, and wished them success.
He also urged students to cultivate quality interpersonal relationships, engage in extracurricular activities, and embrace the university’s respect for cultural diversity and talents.
Addressing the ongoing virtual learning system, Prof. Adebooye promised further improvements. He assured students not to be ashamed of their health status, encouraging those with illnesses to seek help from the health center for proper check-ups and monitoring.
In a positive move, cooking is now allowed in the school hostels for the convenience of students. Prof. Adebooye pledged the university’s commitment to ensuring timely graduation, with convocation ceremonies held in September for students completing final examinations in July, aligning with the university’s solid calendar.
