No fewer than 89 out of 4,210 graduating students of Osun State University, Osogbo will bag first class as four thousand, two hundred and ten students would be awarded various degrees in the combined 12th and 13th convocation ceremonies of the institution.
Addressing journalists on Friday at the main campus of the university in Osogbo, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, also said the institution’s teaching hospital, donated by its Chancellor, Dr. Folorunso Alakija, has reached 97 percent completion stage.
Giving further details about the graduating students and class of grades they obtained, Adebooye said “First Degrees: 3,959, Postgraduate Diploma: 09, Masters Degrees: 229, Doctoral Degrees: 13.
“First Class: 89, Second Class (Upper Division): 1,326, Second Class (Lower Division): 1,818, Third Class: 470, Pass: 5.”
Adebooye noted that the institution’s target to be among the top 10 universities in Nigeria and among the top 25 in Africa by 2026 was being pursued.
To achieve the target, Adebooye underscored the importance of a peaceful academic environment and expressed commitment to an increase in staff satisfaction levels through various welfare packages and incentives.
He assured that the university would continue to sustain its efforts to make available to Nigerians the greatest education possible in a setting supportive of learning.
The Vice-Chancellor further said, “I am happy to inform the stakeholders that we are consistently poised to take the continental lead in academic excellence and global visibility for relevance and impact. We are strongly committed to the vision and founding objectives of a responsible and highly responsive 21st-century university.
“Our targets are clear, and our strategies well defined. We want to be among the top 10 universities in Nigeria and emerge among the top 25 in Africa by 2026. We know various requirements for these, and we are pursuing them vigorously.”
