Students of Osun State University, Ejigbo campus have persistently fallen victim of armed robbery. A gang of robbers recently apprehended by the police narrated how they robbed students using AK47.
The suspects – Adebayo Jide and Akin Tobi – were arrested by a police patrol team at Iwo when they were moving to Ibadan after a robbery operation.
The state Commissioner of Police Fimihan Adeoye said the suspects invaded the students’ hostels on May 29 and stole students’ belongings including phones and laptops.
“One day, policemen and soldiers were fighting in Ibadan, Oyo State and one of the policemen dropped his gun during the scuffle. One of my friends picked the gun and kept it. We have been using that gun since then.”
“One of us suggested that we should rob the students’ hostel. We planned it and we stuck. The operation was successful. We were returning to Ibadan when the policemen arrested us. Two of us were apprehended while others escaped,” the suspects, told Osun Defender.
The commissioner of police said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court after the completion of investigation.
