The management of Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUTH), Osogbo has debunked the allegation of financial irregularities and poor maintenance of medical facilities levelled against hospital.
Earlier, a Non-governmental Organisation named Osun Eagle Eye On Good Governance in a release titled: ‘Save UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital from Total Collapse’ on October 4, 2023 accused management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital of Non-challant attitude, lack of administrative skills, poor maintenance of medical facilities and infrastructure, financial irregularities and misappropriation of fund in purchase of consumables.
However, the management in a swift reaction in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of the Hospital, Ajibolu R.O refuted the allegation and described at as the handiwork of fifth columnist.
The statement reads: “Attention of the Management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo has been drawn to a release issued by one non- governmental organization named Osun Eagle Eye on good governance dated 4th October, 2023 alleging the hospital on the following: “Non – challant attitude, Lack of Administrative skills and Poor maintance of medical facilities and infrastructures, Financial irregularities and misappropriation of fund in purchase of consumables.”
“The hospital wishes to put the records straight on the following allegations.
“Non – Chalant attitude: The administration of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Management under the leadership of Prof. Peter Babatunde Olaitan has never left any stone unturned when it comes to the overall development of hospital and it’s personnel because, services and staff development top the priority list of the hospital Management.
“Lack of Administrative Skills: The Chief Medical Director is an Administrative person per excellent who has held many administrative positions successfully before the current one and who doesn’t make a decision without involving Technocrats. Any decision made by the Management goes inline with the administrative and professional procedures as guided by the Teaching hospital service rules and regulations.
“As part of these is a monthly meeting with all heads of Department/ Unit which allows everyone to delibrate on the development of the hospital, appreciation of staff who has shown outstanding character traits in their various fields, training and re-training of staff, to mention but a few.
“There has been peace and progress since he assumed office with accreditation of new programmes both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A new school of Paediatric nursing has commenced training.
Facilities have also been improved and clinical activities have not stopped for one day since over three years ago.
“Poor maintance of medical facilities and Infrastructures: The management of the hospital always take prompt attention to maintenance and repair of any medical equipments and infrastructural facilities in the hospital as part of these measures to enhance adequate maintenance culture, a monthly program tagged “Ground Round” was held for the staff
“Financial irregularities and mis appropriation of fund in purchase of consumables:
The hospital will like to assure the public that, every consumables/ equipments purchased for the use of the hospital was carried out in line with due process and based on procurement Acts. Several committees are involved in this procedure including, advertisement, tender etc.
“The issue of being planted and plots into this Government to destabilize the good work of the present administration is laughable to say the least as the Chief Medical Director has faithfully served this administration since its inception about a year ago. He has championed and chaired the Imole Medical outreach which is a major achievement of this administration bringing succour to about 59,000 citizens of the state.
“We will like to implore the general public to always verify information before being published.
“UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo will not relent in it’s mission in providing qualitative healthcare services to the people with dignity, care and respect, as this is one of the six points agenda of the State Government.”
