The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of seven persons in the multiple fatal accident that involved a commercial bus, tricycle and motorcycle popularly known as Okada, in the early hours of Tuesday in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the state public enlightenment officer of the FRSC, SRC Agnes Ogungbemi in a statement made available to OSUN DEFENDER, the casualties include four males, two male children and a female child.
Ogungbemi added that four of the deceased died on the spot while three gave up the ghost at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where they were rushed to for treatment by operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Osun Emergency Medical and Ambulance Systems (OSEMSAS).
She however added that one female child out of the eight victims of the accident is still alive and receiving treatment.
OSUN DEFENDER had earlier reported that the accident which happened at WOCDIF area, Ring Road, Osogbo around 9am today, involved the commercial bus MAZDA ES300 with registrar number RBC15 ZN, a TVS tricycle with registration number RLG 898 QE, and a Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle registered with SGB 630 DN, which the FRSC said was caused by tyre bust speed violation and loss of control.
Eyewitnesses told OSUN DEFENDER that the bus rammed into the tricycle and motorcycle at the other end of the road, while moving on a fast speed from the stadium end of the Ring Road.
In the meantime, Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed sadness over the death of some school students and another citizen from a fatal accident that occurred in Osogbo.
The Governor who described the incident as disturbing called on road users to exercise caution and adhere strictly to safety guidance on roads.
