Uromi Killing: Northern Man Threatens Reprisal Attack On Southerners, Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum To Tinubu, Gov. Monday

A yet-to-be-identified Northern man has issued a threat to carry out a reprisal attack on Southerners residing in the North over the recent Uromi mob killing in Edo State.

In a now-viral video, the man gave President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest those responsible for the deaths of 16 Northerners in the attack.

In the video, the man referenced the 2022 killing of Deborah Samuel, a Sokoto student murdered in 2022 over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Justifying Deborah’s killing, he argues that Northerners have never insulted Jesus Christ and warns that any insult to the Prophet will not be tolerated.

“Deborah was not killed just for no reason. Deborah was killed because she abused the Holy Prophet, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Have you ever seen any Northerner abusing Jesus? No! There is no Northerner that has abused Jesus, no, it has never happened,” he says in the video.

He further warned that Islam strictly forbids insulting Prophet Muhammad and that anyone who does so must face severe consequences. He argues that while Muslims respect Prophet Isa (Jesus Christ), Christians in the South have repeatedly disrespected their Prophet.

“Let me tell you something that you don’t know. In Islam, if you abuse Jesus, you are no longer a Muslim. But you Christians, the stupid among you, the dumbest among you, abuse the Holy Prophet and you think we will keep quiet?”

The video took a more threatening turn as he directly addressed President Tinubu and Governor Okpebholo, warning that if justice is not served, Northerners will retaliate against Southerners residing in the North.

“Mr. President, President Bola Tinubu, this message is directly to you, and His Excellency the governor of Edo State, Mr. Monday, this is also a message directly to you. You know you have many of your people in the North—especially in Borno State, Kano State, Jos, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Adamawa. There are many Christians there. We won’t consider whether you’re from Edo or even from Cote d’Ivoire. If you’re a Southerner, whatever follows is caused by you people,” he declares.

“Let this be the last warning. 48 hours is enough. Time is not against you; time is against us. Mr. President, you only have minutes, not even hours—minutes! Fetch out those people because if action is not taken, you have your people here, and we will do the same to them.”

The video has since sparked widespread outrage and debate across the country with many Nigerians condemning the threat as an incitement to violence urging security agencies to take immediate action.

As of the time of filing this report, no authorities have publicly reacted to the viral threats.
