US President, Joe Biden Invites Buhari

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has been invited by U.S. President Joe Biden to a virtual summit to galvanise efforts at tackling the climate crisis.

The summit is scheduled for April 22nd -23rd. The White House says It hopes that the meeting will help shape, speed up and deepen global efforts to cut climate-wrecking fossil fuel pollution.

The US President also invited 39 other world leaders to the summit. The two-day summit is expected to commemorate America’s return to the frontlines of the fight against human-caused climate change, after former President Trump backed out from the process.

According to a White House’s statement, “the summit will also highlight examples of how enhanced climate ambition will create good-paying jobs, advance innovative technologies, and help vulnerable countries adapt to climate impacts.”

Leaders of Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climat were invited, this brings together 17 countries responsible for approximately 80 per cent of global emissions and global GDP. Heads of other countries that are especially “vulnerable to climate impacts” or demonstrating “strong climate leadership,” were also invited.
