USAID Staff, Two Others Remanded Over Alleged Diversion Of 300 Government Mosquito Nets
The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and remand of three persons who allegedly sold government-owned mosquito nets that were meant to be distributed free to households in Ife North Local Government Area.
The suspects are: Rabbi Bennett ‘F’, a staff of the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, attached to Ife North LGA, Ipetumodu; Opeyemi Ajibola ‘M’, an Okada rider of Ayetoro Street, Ipetumodu; and Aminu Ibrahim ‘M’.
The spokesperson of the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the incident came to light on June 9, 2026, following a report of the illegal sale of nets provided under a government health intervention programme.
Ojelabi said investigations revealed that the nets were supposed to be given to members of the public at no cost, but were instead diverted and sold.
The statement stated that the suspects allegedly sold six bundles containing three hundred 300 pieces of mosquito nets on June 8, 2026.
Trouble reportedly started when Bennett and Ajibola had a dispute over proceeds from the unlawful sale.
“During investigation, they reportedly confessed to their involvement in the alleged offence,” Ojelabi noted.
He added that the suspects have since been charged to court and are currently on remand at the Correctional Centre pending further judicial proceedings.
