Use Empowerment Tools To Better Your Lives, Adeleke Tells Beneficiaries

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Tueday urged beneficiaries of different empowerment programmes sponsored by the lawmakers representing the state in the National Assembly to ensure they use the tools to turn their lives around.

Adeleke made the appeal in Osogbo, at an event organised by the lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, where the Senator presented his scorecard to the people and distributed vehicles, money and other empowerment tools to his constituents.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, said more of such empowerment initiatives should be expected from political officeholders and the government.

He charged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to raise their social status and make a decent living.

He said, “You can see how joyful the people are because of this empowerment programme. I want to congratulate Senator Fadeyi. He should keep it up because there is no other way you can keep your electoral promises than, through this kind of initiative.

“While the state government is playing its own role, our senators are contributing their own quota and House of Representative members are also expected to organise empowerment initiatives. Before long, dividend of democracy will reach every part of the state.

“I advise beneficiaries of these initiatives, they should make good use of whatever they are given. If it is cash, they should invest the money, if it is tools they collect, they should use them for the right purpose. They must not sell them. If they make good use of these tools, we will be able to eliminate poverty in our state.”

In his remarks, Fadeyi, who among others listed his achievements in the last 180 days in office to include the construction of a road in Ikirun, the installation of street lighting system in major communities across the senatorial district, added that vehicles were donated to the party leadership in each of the 10 local government areas in the Central Senatorial District.

He also said N50 million had been distributed to the people as part of efforts to alleviate poverty among them.

He said, “In all, we focus on infrastructure that’s why we can say that we are able to commission a road today in five months and our pledge is to do about 3.5 kilometres in two to three years and 7.5 kilometre rural roads.

“Also, we are giving about N50 million to our people as palliative. We need to support our people to alleviate poverty. We are also providing about 10 to 12 vehicles to support their movement.”
