Youths from Ekpoma community in Edo State, have staged a protest to express their displeasure over the rising cases of kidnapping in the area.

In a viral video shared by an influencer with the handle @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), the youths were seen storming the streets and barricading the expressway in protest.

The video also showed the protesters tearing down a re-election campaign poster bearing the images of President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. The action was accompanied by loud chants of “Tear am,” “Tear am commot,” “Pull am down,” and “Pull am commot” from the crowd.

Osun Defender reports that Governor Okpebholo had earlier boasted that President Tinubu would not need to campaign in Edo State, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) enjoys massive support across the state.

The governor also declared that he would be willing to resign from office if President Tinubu fails to secure victory in Edo State during the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during an interview on AIT, Okpebholo said the APC now dominates Edo’s political landscape and faces “no real opposition” ahead of the next general elections.

According to him, Tinubu’s growing popularity in the state, combined with his administration’s early initiatives, has further strengthened the APC’s position. He cited recent bye-election results in Esan as evidence of the party’s rising influence, insisting that Edo residents would “thank Asiwaju with their votes.”

His words: “Asiwaju is even more popular than me here now because Edo people already know that what I’m doing is because of Asiwaju’s impact.

“You will see the kind of result that will come out from here because there’s no opposition in Edo.

“Did you see the bye-election? We’ve never produced the kind of results we produced in Esan. The Esan and Edo people have not even told Asiwaju thank you, and how will they? It’s going to be the votes.

“Everybody is for Asiwaju. The people will thank him with their votes. If he does not win, I’d resign,” Okpebholo added.
