The Chinese national who gifted N5,000 cash to Nigerian policemen who provided security services during his visit to the country, has issued a public apology to Nigerians.

OSUN DEFENDER reported that gesture sparked widespread outrage and criticism after the video went viral, with many Nigerians expressing shame and disappointment over the incident.

The Chinese national in video released on X, explained that the gift was meant to be a token of appreciation for the excellent services rendered by the security personnel.

He emphasized that there was no intention to disrespect or insult the police and that the gesture was purely out of gratitude.

The individual, who led a Chinese delegation to Nigeria to explore investment opportunities, attributed the negative impact to the lack of knowledge of local practices and regulations by his accompanying personnel, who took a video of the incident and shared it online.

According to him, “Recently, I led a Chinese delegation, visited an investment opportunity in Nigeria. In the process, our local security they provide an excellent services. To thank the security personnel for their dedication, I gave them food subsidies to express recognition and gratitude to the work.

“These meal subsides, it doesn’t mean anything else. Their is no intention of disrespecting or insulting the local police. Just thanks. The atmosphere was also quite friendly. It doesn’t contain any other bad ideas. But this incident due to our accompanying personnel
lack of knowledge of local practices and regulations, took a video of it and send it online.

“This is the first time they come to Nigeria. It had a negative impact on our security team. I apologise for that. It has been committed to providing friendly economic and cooperation between Nigeria and China. Lead by more Chinese investors, invest in Nigeria contribute to the friendly development if the two countries. Although this incident, there are some negative effect on the internet, but it doesn’t affect the Future. I continue to promote and led more Chinese investors to invest in Nigeria.

“Finally, I will discuss this incident again to all relevant personnel and all relevant departments. I apologise. This is a reminder to our people investing in Nigeria, be sure to learn about the local culture and customs. Understand local laws and regulations. Respect local human laws and customs. Be a well educated investor”, he said.
