There was a mild drama yesterday as Lagosians greeted President Bola Tinubu with hostility.
In a video shared on social media, the President’s convoy was passing Idumota market in Lagos State, but traders lining both sides of the road refrained from cheering the president’s convoy.
Instead, they expressed their dissatisfaction about the present state of the economy shouting “Ebi npa wa oo” in Yoruba, translating to “We are hungry”.
President Tinubu’s visit to Lagos was intended to mark the Christmas and New Year festivities.
This has generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians. Some of the reactions from social media users include:
Baron Chymaker, @chymaker, said: “Look at the environment where his convoy drove through. Folks are dying of hunger, but man is living a life he never dreamt of giving himself on Nigerians blood.
Commenting on the environment, Patrick, @PatoEner, said: “Why is Lagos so dirty?”
@Pauly2570, said “This is why they grab power and run with it. Self aggrandizement and life in luxury and affluence.”
Collins, @icapcorn, said: “In my next life, I’d like to be reincarnated in one of the European countries. Being born in Nigeria feels like a mistake.”
Nigerians are celebrating the Yuletide amid a series of economic challenges, including food inflation, an increase in the price of petrol and a shortage of cash.
