Dr. Temitope Maberu Fagunwa of the Department of History and International Studies at Osun State University has lamented over the ongoing economic hardship and urged President Bola Tinubu to quit.
The Lecturer stated this on Tuesday, February 27, during the nationwide protests organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Osun Defender recalls that the members of the NLC protested by showing their grievances over the current situation of things in the country.
They also protested the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2, 2023, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The protest followed the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to implement measures against the widespread hardship.
It would be recalled that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress had, on February 8, issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government over the failure to implement the agreements reached on October 2, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
While speaking during the NLC Protest which was held in Lagos, Dr. Fagunwa stated that he is not an adviser to the Nigerian government, nor a politician, and his responsibility is not to advise the Nigerian government but it is his right is to speak about things that are not going well in the country.
He added, “It’s just a matter of time before the masses will soon take power from the political class and we rule over the citizens, we are not interested in IMF, World Bank, and others anymore.”
