Visa Fraud: US Threatens Lifetime Ban, Criminal Prosecution For Nigerians

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a strong warning to Nigerians against visa fraud, stating that anyone found guilty of submitting fake documents or engaging in deceitful application practices will face a lifetime ban from entering the country.

In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the Mission reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to tackling immigration fraud through a coordinated interagency crackdown.

“U.S. government interagency efforts combat fraud and will end illegal immigration. Those who commit visa fraud will be banned from the United States for life,” the Mission stated.

It further warned that criminal prosecution would follow for individuals who attempt to manipulate the system, including those who smuggle or harbour illegal immigrants.

“We will pursue criminal charges against those who engage in visa fraud and those who bring in and harbour illegal aliens,” the statement added.

The post made it clear that any use of forged documents would not be taken lightly: “Fake documents = US visa ban.”

This warning comes amid intensified efforts by U.S. immigration and consular authorities to curb fraudulent practices and enforce stricter visa procedures.

The message serves as a clear caution to Nigerians intending to travel to the U.S., as the American government continues to strengthen its border security and protect the integrity of its immigration system.

The Mission ended its statement with a firm declaration of policy: “A nation without borders is not a nation.”
