The leader of Academy of Islamic Propagation (ACADIP), an Islamic institute that engages in comparative religious studies, Yusuf Adepoju, has urged electorates to vote for politicians who have the fear of God and are ready to move Nigeria forward.

A statement on Wednesday noted that the Islamic cleric made the call in Ede, Osun State, after his conferment as the Agbesinga of Ede land by the Ede Muslim Council last Sunday.

The statement, noted that the event held at the Central Mosque, Ede, attracted dignitaries including the chief Imam of Ogbomoso, the chief Imam of Oyo, Dr Yunus Teliat and Barrister Bilaal Akinola, Ibadan-based Islamic scholar, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola, former PDP deputy national chairman, Shuaib Oyedokun and the host chief Imam, Mas’ud Hussain Akajewole.

Adepoju also urged politicians to ensure they fulfil their campaign promises, adding that Nigerians need people who are ready to serve and contribute to the development of humanity.

He said, “Politicians should ensure that they fulfil the promises they made during their campaigns. It is a pledge and they must fulfil it. Also, the voters should always vote for credible and reliable people.

“When we vote for people who have the fear of God, Nigeria as a country will move forward. These days, we need people who are ready to serve and contribute to human advancement. So, voters should make it a point of duty to look for capable people and elect them.”

The Islamic scholar appreciated the Ede Muslim Council for counting him worthy of the title and promised to see it as a means to contribute more to the propagation of Islam and humanity.

“This is a challenge to contribute more to the propagation of Islam, humanity and be more steadfast. I am grateful to the Ede Muslim Council for the honour and those who came to honour me,” Adepoju added.

Earlier in his address, the chairman, Ede Muslim Council, Dr Musibaudeen Idris, said Adepoju and other recipients of awards during the programme are expected to uphold the principles of Islam and continue to contribute to the growth and development of the
community.

“They are expected to serve as mentors and guides to the younger generation promoting unity, peace, and harmony among our people,” Dr Idris noted.
