Wabara Denies Dumping PDP For ADC

Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara, has dismissed reports claiming he defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress as false and deliberately misleading.

Wabara urged PDP members and the general public to ignore what he described as planted and mischievous social media reports suggesting he had left the party.

He reacted to claims that he was among South East leaders who travelled to Enugu on December 31 to receive former President Olusegun Obasanjo during an alleged visit to endorse Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2027 race.

Describing the reports as fake, Wabara said a photograph circulating online showing him with Obi, Obasanjo and other Igbo leaders had been deliberately misrepresented.

He explained that the image was taken during a visit by Igbo leaders to Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta last year and had no connection with any event in Enugu.

According to him, the presence of Obasanjo’s portrait in the background of the picture clearly showed it was taken inside the former president’s home.

Wabara insisted that his membership of the PDP had never been in doubt and accused his detractors of sponsoring the false reports to blackmail him.

He said those spreading the story were disgruntled elements working to destabilise the PDP but maintained that their actions would not succeed.

“The same disgruntled elements who have been contracted to destroy the PDP are behind this mischievous media campaign.

“But no amount of lies can change the fact that I am still very much in the PDP.

“I’m not only in the PDP but committed to seeing that the PDP bounces back as the ruling national party in 2027,” he said.

Wabara added that no amount of blackmail would deter him from insisting on the rule of law and due process in efforts to rebuild the party into a strong political force.
