Water Supply: Monarch Community Leaders Lauds Council Management

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Olabomi has commended the Boripe Local Government Caretaker Management Committee for the swift intervention of the council on the challenges of water supply in the area.

He said the intervention of the management committee in less than two months of assumption of office has justified the intention of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the creation of more local governments in the state to fast-track development at the grassroots.

Oba Adbul-rasheed said this recently during the site inspection of the ongoing motorised borehole projects initiated by the council’s caretaker management committee in five strategic locations in Iragbiji community.

According to the monarch, one of the major challenges of the larger populace in the community is access to hygienic water, adding that the five motorised boreholes will substantially lessen the burden of the people especially women who for years have been struggling to get water for domestic usage.

He urged the beneficiary  communities to protect the projects jealously by forming committee that will be responsible for the maintenance and electricity expenses management to really enjoy the facility and ensure its sustainability.

The Council Executive Secretary, Mr Ayantoye Kazeem who was accompanied by the Council Manager, Mr Ganiyu Obelawo and other members of the management committee said that the provision of the motorised borehole was in line with the mandate of Governor Rauf Aregbesola on social protection programmes to make life more abundant for the people at the grassroots level.

Ayantoye who described water as the very essence of life and indispensable domestic needs of the people said, the management sited the five motorised boreholes in the five locations after consultation with the community leaders who voluntarily choose borehole as the project of necessity.

He said: “We consciously chose water because it has to do with healthy living of our people, as one of the best way to prevent diseases outbreak is to provide hygienic water that will prevent our people from consuming contaminated stream water that may cause Cholera or other water-burn diseases. Hygienic water will ordinarily reduce our health expenses and make domestic responsibility of our women easier.

“This community has been facing water challenges for a long time and our women would go far distance to get portable water and now that we have the opportunity to be in position of leadership, it is our cardinal objective that we increase access to hygienic water to make life more dignify for our people”, he said.

Baale Aresa Community, one of the beneficiary communities, Alhaji Isiaka Afolabi and former State Chairman of National Road Transport Workers (NURTW) described the water project as a blessing to the community and promised proper care of the facility.

He commended the vision of the council leadership for the location of the borehole and Governor Aregbesola for the creation of more council which according to him has brought governance closer to the people.
