The Head of Department of Mass Communication, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Chief Tope Abiola has debunked a report being spread around about a student of the department having HIV and passing it round in the polytechnic through sex.
There is a viral video on the social media in which a student of the department is purportedly carrying HIV and spreading it to unsuspecting males friends on the campus through sex.
But Abiola dismissed the video, describing it as fictitious, malicious and a definition of fake news which must be generally disregarded.
Abiola, in a telephone interview with Our Reporter on Sunday, said that the institution has not recorded any HIV case through its health centre, adding that the Mass Communication department does not know the name of the lady mentioned in the video.
He said: “You know we are in the era of social media where fake news is thriving. What you asked me about somebody who has HIV in my department is a fictitious news because we have not heard about it.”
Abiola advised members of the public to stay clear of fake news and any report targeted at bringing disrepute to the institution and the noble mass communication department.
The video and picture of one Clever Goodluck and his girlfriend had been circulated on the social media with a narration that Goodluck contracted HIV from the lady.
But findings revealed that both Clever Goodluck and his girlfriend are not students of OSPOLY.
They are residing in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, according to findings.
