We Won’t Trade Safety For Speed Or Profit – Air Peace Replies NCAA
Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, has responded to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)’s warning regarding recurring flight delays and cancellations, stating that passenger safety remains its foremost concern and not profit.
In a statement, Air Peace acknowledged the NCAA’s regulatory role but criticised what it described as “perceived misrepresentations” of its operations and safety practices.
“While we hold the NCAA in the highest regard… we believe it is essential to set the record straight,” the airline said.
It stressed that flight disruptions are usually a result of safety concerns rather than any operational failure.
“If weather conditions, technical parameters, or operational standards fall short of what is safe, we will not operate that flight,” the statement read.
Air Peace also rejected claims that it lacks enough aircraft to sustain its operations, clarifying that it has more planes than it uses daily.
“Any delays or cancellations we’ve experienced have absolutely nothing to do with fleet shortage,” it added.
To illustrate the unpredictable challenges faced in aviation, the airline mentioned a bird strike incident during landing in Enugu earlier in the day, which damaged an aircraft engine and forced its grounding.
The affected plane was reportedly scheduled for multiple routes, leading to a chain of delays.
“It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause.
“We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed, or profit,” Air Peace said.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to treating passengers with dignity, maintaining professionalism, and upholding international aviation safety standards.
