West Ham United earned their first home win of the season, beating Manchester United 3-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday.
It was their second Premier League win in 20 attempts over Manchester United and this was done in emphatic fashion. And they have further compounded Jose Mourinho’s woes, as coach of the team.
The Hammers opened the scoring after only five minutes. Brazilian Felipe Anderson registered his first Premier League goal after meeting Pablo Zabaleta’s cross with a skilful back-flick.
Romelu Lukaku headed against the post on 22 minutes, but West Ham went 2-0 up on 43 minutes.
Andriy Yarmolenko’s left-footed shot took a deflection off Victor Lindelof and looped over David De Gea. The keeper was completely beaten.
Lukasz Fabianski made an outstanding save from Marouane Fellaini on 66 minutes before Marcus Rashford turned in Luke Shaw’s corner to offer United hope.
But the Hammers restored their two-goal advantage three minutes later when Marko Arnautovic coolly converted Mark Noble’s through-ball.
The victory took West Ham 12th, with seven points, while United are eighth with 10.
West Ham’s next game will be played on 5 October, away at Brighton Hove Albion.
Manchester United will host a day after Newcastle United.
