Why I Fell Out With Davido – Tiwa Savage Reveals
Nigerian music star, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about her fallout with Afrobeats heavyweight, Davido, shedding light on the circumstances that led to their rift.
Speaking during an interview on The Breakfast Club, Tiwa Savage reflected on her December 2023 clash with Davido, which had dominated social media conversations at the time.
She explained that the disagreement stemmed from a post she made on Instagram involving Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama.
According to the singer, her friendship with Momodu was not contrived or influenced by industry politics but grew naturally due to their children’s close bond.
She revealed that both kids attend the same school and have been childhood friends, a connection that also strengthened the mothers’ relationship.
Savage said her decision to share the Instagram story was not targeted at Davido or meant to spark controversy but was a simple gesture of friendship that spiraled into an unexpected misunderstanding.
“The truth is, my friendship with Sophia happened naturally. Our children are close, they’ve known each other since they were little, and they attend the same school. That’s how we got close, and there was nothing more to it,” she explained.
The singer also acknowledged that the entertainment industry is prone to heightened scrutiny and misinterpretations, stressing that her action was blown out of proportion.
She described the incident as “one of those moments where people read meanings into something that was never intended.”
Savage further noted that despite the fallout, she holds no bitterness toward Davido and still respects him as a colleague and fellow Nigerian artiste who has contributed significantly to the global rise of Afrobeats.
“I have nothing against Davido. We’ve known each other for years, and I respect what he has achieved. Sometimes misunderstandings happen, but it doesn’t take away from the bigger picture of our shared contribution to music,” she added.
The award-winning artiste also used the opportunity to address the issue of female representation in the Nigerian music industry.
She emphasized that women in entertainment are often unfairly judged for their associations and personal choices, urging fans and the media to focus more on talent and creativity.
