Why I Rejoined APC – Ex Ondo Deputy Gov Agboola Ajayi
Former Ondo State deputy governor and 2024 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Agboola Ajayi, has explained that his decision to leave the PDP and rejoin the All Progressives Congress was to enable him to participate fully in the activities of the ruling party.
He said the move would also allow him to support the EASE Agenda of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Ajayi spoke in Igbekebo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, where he was formally received back into the APC by party leaders.
He said his return to the APC was also aimed at strengthening his support for the current administration at both the state and federal levels.
“My move to rejoin the APC will also strengthen my support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s EASE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“I decided to join the APC because you will recall that I was a member of the APC before and I became a deputy governor there.
“At the time there was misunderstanding and I left, but I am back fully now,” Ajayi said.
Drawing lessons from international politics, Ajayi cited the example of Kenya, where former rivals came together in the national interest.
“We all remember what happened in Kenya, where Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta contested elections together and fought and abused themselves.
“But at the time they said it was okay and that they must come together for the interest of Kenya.
“That is exactly what I have done today,” Ajayi said.
He said political campaigns often come with propaganda and blackmail, but stressed that national interest must override personal differences.
“This is about the Nigeria project and we should come together to see how we can add value to the system,” he said.
Ajayi commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold reforms and economic policies.
“He has laid a solid foundation and no future president will come and cancel these policies again,” he said.
He added that although Nigeria was not free from crime, there had been noticeable improvements in security and governance.
“I believe with all our support, the president will transform the country and after his eight years, Nigerians will say the country is better,” Ajayi said.
He also urged party members to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to enable the state benefit more from governance.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative and Party Affairs, Babatunde Kolawole, described Ajayi’s return as a major boost for the APC.
“I have the mandate of His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to welcome our former deputy governor, Alfred Agboola Ajayi, to our great party,” Kolawole said.
“He is a big value addition and has joined us to support the developmental strides of the governor,” he added.
Kolawole said Ajayi’s decision was influenced by the achievements of the APC-led administration and its alignment
