THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the State of Osun has explained why the electorate in the state voted massively for the party in last Saturday’s general election.
According to the PDP, voters in the state voted en-masse for its presidential and National Assembly candidates because of the tribunal judgement which sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke.
It would be recalled that the governorship election petition tribunal, led by Justice Tershe Kume, declared the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as the winner of the July 16, gubernatorial election in the state.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, the PDP stated that the tribunal judgment infuriated the people of the state who considered the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a bunch of people who want to steal their collective will through the backdoor.
The party said that was the reason while the electorate ensured that the APC did not win any of the elective offices in the general elections.
PDP secured all the three senatorial and nine House of Representatives seats in the state during the elections.
But the APC alleged that the elections were held under siege which was responsible for the party’s defeat.
However, PDP debunked the allegation saying that the elections was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
The party added that the elections results declared reflected the collective will of the Osun people.
“I don’t know whether there is any credence to such a claim that thugs were moving around the state, even with the presence of security everywhere.
“It never happened anywhere. I wouldn’t know where such an allegation is coming from as far as I am concerned. They are just beating about the bush.
“In my unit, we were all together with the APC and we didn’t have any issues. Elections bring people together. For me, I never heard any report of thuggery anywhere.
“Nothing of such. The election was held under a very peaceful atmosphere and the results declared reflected the collective will of the Osun people.
“They are threatening court cases again. That was part of what got people annoyed, especially, after the governorship election where people felt that they were the ones who elected governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The residents see APC as a bunch of people who want to steal their collective will through the backdoor. That was what infuriated the electorate in last Saturday’s elections and that is why they got the beating of their life.
“They should not begin to make the mistake of making the court appear as if it is a department in APC. The court is for all Nigerians regardless of class, status, and political affiliation.
“Wherever they want to go, we will meet them there. Anybody condemning what happened on Saturday is just messing around”.
