Operatives of the Zone XI Police Command in Osogbo have reportedly arrested a man identified as Mr. Aderanti Jeremiah Oluwapelumi over alleged impersonation, fraud and other related offences.

The arrest reportedly took place inside the suspect’s residence in Osogbo, where police officers were seen scaling the fence of the compound before gaining access to the premises.

A video circulating on social media and posted on Osun Defender Facebook page captured the moment armed officers entered the residence during the operation.

According to a source within the police command who did not want his name in print, the suspect had allegedly resisted arrest on several occasions despite efforts by security operatives and some community members to get him apprehended.

The source disclosed that the suspect was accused of parading himself as a legal practitioner and also as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State without official authorisation.

It was further alleged that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect used the identities to allegedly deceive members of the public, gain influence and carry out fraudulent activities under the guise of government affiliation and legal representation.

The source added that the suspect was also being investigated for alleged offences relating to obtaining money under false pretence, criminal misrepresentation and acts capable of undermining public confidence in government institutions.

“The suspect was apprehended following intelligence reports and complaints alleging that he had been parading himself as a legal practitioner as well as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State without lawful authorisation,” the source said.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used the false identities to deceive unsuspecting members of the public, gain undue influence, and allegedly carry out fraudulent activities under the guise of government affiliation and legal representation.

“The arrest forms part of the command’s renewed effort to clamp down on impersonators, fraudsters and individuals engaging in criminal activities across the zone.

“The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue, after which he is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of findings,” the source added.

As at the time of filing this report, the Zone XI command has yet to officially confirm the report.
