Thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors, comprising party leaders and grassroots mobilisers from different local government areas of the state, said their defection is real and affirmed by the report of the Democratic Polling Agency (DPA), which predicted electoral victory for the PDP in the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement signed by 40 leaders among those who decamped from all the 30 local governments and Area Office, the group described their defection as “real, authentic, widespread and in thousands, not hundreds.
The statement reads, “We decide (sic) to issue this statement following controversy generated by a survey report from the Democracy Polling Agency which affirmed that 45 percent of Oyetola faction of the APC have defected to the PDP.
“We want to confirm that many of us were interviewed by the researchers who asked several questions from us. Many of us across the local governments were interviewed. When we saw the report, we knew it reflected our position.
“We left APC because the party has become unfocused, unpopular, anti-people, vendetta driven and unelectable. We left the APC because we want to be part of good things happening in our state. We are glad Governor Ademola Adeleke has turned around the fortunes of Osun state for the better.
“We don’t want to be part of the failure of the past. Osun’s government failed in the past under APC and we now have a government of PDP that is doing the bidding and aspirations of the people. We decided to be part of the success story.

“We also want to clarify that we have no problem with old members we met on the ground in the PDP. They are wonderful host and we are joining hands to build a better state. As new members, our goal is to ensure the re-election of Mr Governor. We want the good work to continue.
“To the APC, we are real leaders from across the local governments who left your party for PDP. We put our names on this statement so the public can know we are real. “We can assert that more than 50 percent of Ileri Oluwa APC have left for PDP. More APC members are joining the APC. It is a continuous exercise”, the statement concluded.
In its reaction, the APC affirmed that the PDP in the state will not get anything right because the foundation upon which it is based is deceit and crookedness.
APC also described the defectors as political scavengers in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Saturday.
The opposition said, “Is it not funny that in an attempt to convince the people that the party harvested some of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members, the handlers of media for the disintegrated Osun PDP further committed more grievous and unpardonable errors?
“We wouldn’t have dignified the confused and dissilusioned media handlers of Governor Ademola Adeleke with any response since the subject of this reaction is not official as the main story lacked without redemption all the known professional ingredients of a press statement but it is necessary because a reference was made to me by the anonymous writer of the story who was apparently afraid to own it.
“That such a substandard story headlined: ‘Why we are quiting APC in thousands – Leaders of Osun APC decampees’ was allowed to be published by some entities professing to be managing the media of the governor was an indication that there was no quality control for the types of stories that are being written and published by both the party and media aides to defend the ruling party and the government.
“It is expedient to state that the media handlers of the embattled Governor Adeleke further succeeded in compounding their principal’s lingering problems by reeling out the names of some deadwood political scavengers and scallywags who hitherto were members of the PDP as leaders of the imaginary APC defectors into their party without addressing the issue of the false affiliation of their invented faceless survey body, the Democracy Polling Agency, which the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has denied the knowledge of.
“We, as a party, acknowledge the difficulty entailed in those shameless and impenitent characters who spearheaded the handling of the imaginary defection abracadabra with the sole purpose of dubiously impressing the political power merchants in the Ede country home of the Adelekes to justify the dough that was invested into the bad business of the make-believe defection that has gone awry.
“The subsisting PDP kangaroo defection exercise is a clear manifestation of the need to invent another 1000 lies to cover up a lie as the defection story of the APC members into the PDP defies any known logic as it is practically impossible for either the wise or certified idiots to identify with a sinking ship over the one that is bubbling with life more abundance.
“We are advising wholeheartedly that it is inhuman and wicked for the opportunistic PDP members or chieftains who are cashing in on the apparent lack of political knowhow of Governor Nuru to fraudulently turn him into a cash-milking cow in order to deceive him that the non-existing APC members were defecting into their wrecked party moreso that the country-home appointed state chairman of the party is busy patronizing the liquid stuff from Ilesa to the utter detriment of the effective running of the party.”
