Wike Allocated Land To Son, Slashed Fees From ₦200m To ₦2m In 48 Hours – Sen Kingibe Alleges
Senator Ireti Kingibe has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of allocating several plots of Abuja land to his 23-year-old son, Joaquin, and reducing the official land charges from ₦200 million to ₦2 million within two days.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Kingibe said she has documentary evidence to back her claim and vowed to submit the documents to the FCT Assembly for action.
“I have documents to show that when Minister Wike allocated lands to his son – acres of lands – and as he says, his son is entitled to land, no problem. But I have the documents showing that the original charges were ₦200 million and ₦100 million in some cases. They wrote to him for a waiver and within 48 hours, the charges dropped to ₦2 million,” Kingibe said.
She described the move as illegal, unfair, and unethical, stressing that such waivers violated administrative procedures and deprived the FCT of legitimate revenue.
Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate, said the FCT Minister operates with impunity and has consistently failed to account for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), including funds in the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
“The President, from whom Wike derives his powers, seeks National Assembly approval for expenditures. So how come Wike doesn’t do the same, except for the budget? He’s never accounted for how funds are spent,” she queried.
She also criticised Wike for refusing to be accountable to the FCT Assembly, insisting that he must be subjected to oversight just like any public officer.
“Some people have told me not to speak up. But if I cannot speak, I might as well resign. I’m not afraid of anybody. God protects, and I have more security than most people,” she said.
Kingibe also narrated a recent security scare, saying a black SUV trailed her from the airport to town, prompting her to change routes.
Despite the risks, she said she remains determined to expose wrongdoing, adding, “I’m a civil engineer. I don’t speak without facts. I’m taking the documents to the FCT Assembly. Something must be done.”
The latest allegation follows earlier claims by Kingibe that Wike was behaving like an emperor and abusing his office with unchecked power.
Wike has previously denied claims that he allocated 2,000 hectares of land in Abuja to his son for agriculture, but Kingibe insists the documents she possesses prove otherwise.
