Wike-Backed PDP Rejects Turaki Faction’s Meeting With ADC
The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has distanced itself from the meeting held between the Taminu Turaki-led faction and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, insisting the engagement was not authorised by the party.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the party had neither held nor approved any formal or informal talks with the ADC or its representatives.
Mohammed said those who attended the meeting did so in their personal capacities and should not be seen as speaking or acting on behalf of the PDP.
He urged party members and the general public to disregard claims suggesting the PDP was involved in the engagement, describing such reports as baseless and misleading.
According to him, the party remains committed to its internal processes and has not entered into any alliance or political arrangement with the ADC.
He added that preparations for the PDP’s primary elections were ongoing and assured members that the timetable and guidelines would be released at the appropriate time.
“The party remains focused on its internal processes and its commitment to credible leadership for Nigerians,” the statement read.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP visited the ADC in what it described as a solidarity meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which lasted about two hours between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., reportedly centred on national issues and possible inter-party cooperation.
Among those present were former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, members of the PDP National Working Committee, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Also in attendance were former governors Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi.
ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and other senior political figures also participated in the meeting.
