Amid ongoing political unrest rocking Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again stirred fresh controversy following a private dinner he hosted in the United Kingdom with suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Reliable sources disclosed that the former Rivers governor jetted out of the country on Sunday evening after holding a series of closed-door meetings with his loyalists in Port Harcourt.

Barely hours after his departure, reports emerged that Wike, in what appears to be a calculated political move, hosted a dinner with the embattled lawmakers currently facing suspension back home.

The lawmakers, believed to be in Wike’s camp during the internal Assembly crisis that erupted late earlier, were seen at the UK gathering, rekindling speculations about renewed alignments and underground political dealings ahead of 2027.

OSUN DEFENDER recalls that on March 18, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing the protracted political crisis and vandalisation of oil facilities.

The president suspended Siminalayi Fubara, Ngozi Odu, his deputy, and all house of assembly members for six 6months.

Tinubu also appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral, as the sole administrator for Rivers state.

On March 20, the senate and the house of representatives controversially ratified Tinubu’s request for the emergency rule.

On March 26, Ibas suspended all political officeholders in the state.
