Wike’s Outburst Embarrassment To Public Office – Counter Insurgency Expert Slams FCT Minister Over Row With Naval Officer

Counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has slammed the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the heated confrontation between the former Rivers State Governor and a Naval officer.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that the confrontation occurred over a disputed plot in Gaduwa, Abuja.

In a video circulating online, Wike was seen accusing the officer of illegally occupying the land linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, questioning why the military would claim property based on past rank.

But Makama, in a post on his X, said Wike’s action was unbecoming of a man holding a national office.

He noted that Wike’s calling a naval officer a ‘fool’ showed the height of disrespect and the uncivilized conduct that has become synonymous with some public officials.

He wrote, “Once again, the arrogance and recklessness that have come to define the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, were on full display, this time against an officer of the Nigerian Navy who was simply doing his job.

“Reports indicate that Wike, in his usual temperamental fashion, called a Naval officer a “fool” for preventing the Ministry from encroaching on a restricted area. But the officer, a commissioned member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, stood his ground and reminded the Minister that he is not a fool, he is a trained, disciplined officer of the Nigerian Navy performing his lawful duty.

“That moment exposed the height of disrespect and the uncivilized conduct that has sadly become synonymous with some public officials. For a sitting Minister to insult a serving military officer on duty is not just shameful it’s a total disgrace to the dignity of governance. The FCT is not a motor park, and its leadership should not conduct itself like agbero union executives.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria deserve respect, not verbal abuse from political appointees who believe power gives them the right to humiliate others. Wike’s outburst is unbecoming of a man holding a national office.

“Leadership requires decorum, emotional control, and respect for institutions, all of which were missing in his behavior.

“The Ministry of the FCT must be reminded that the city belongs to Nigeria, not to one man’s ego or temper. It is high time government officials learned that power is temporary, but the respect for uniformed men and the rule of law is eternal.”
