American boxer Deontay Wilder has claimed that Anthony Joshua has pulled out of their proposed fight.

Both camps were close to agreeing to a deal to fight weeks ago with Wilder said to be ready to fight Joshua in United Kingdom, where the Nigerian-born British world heavyweight champion has won each of his 21 bouts.

Wilder, the current World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion unbeaten in 40 bouts, tweeted on Thursday to express frustration with the Joshua camp.

“My team and I bent over backwards … accepting everything they threw at us just to find out this boy is terrified of me, p****,” Wilder wrote on Twitter.

“I said all that past s*** to tell the story and to apologise. I’m sorry guys they played us all. F*** ’em.

“We move forward, the future is still bright.”

Joshua is expected to take on Alexander Povetkin, who is his mandatory challenger.
