A business woman, Ngozi Adekeye, 28, who allegedly used a hot iron to inflict injury on her housekeeper was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos.
The accused, who resides at Block 2, Room 7, Police Barrack, Ikeja, is being tried for assault.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny told the court that the offence was committed on June 6, at the accused residence.
Donny said that the accused claimed that the housekeeper, a 10-year-old girl, stole her money.
“Hence, she plugged an iron and when it was hot, she placed it on the girl’s bottom and neck which caused her severe injury.
“It was one of the neighbours who alerted the police and the accused was apprehended,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies-Abegunde granted the accused bail of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Davies-Abegunde adjourned the case till July 17, for the mention.
