Woman Murders Daughter, Commits Suicide After Being Abused By Husband

A 24-year-old woman, identified as Renuka Pintu took her life alongside her three-year-old daughter by throwing herself before a local train at Bhayandar railway station, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

According to reports Pintu took her life after she was allegedly harassed by her husband.

Pintu came to Bhayandar railway station in the intervening night of August 2 and August 3 and stood at the Churchgate-end of platform number four with her daughter, Arohi, in her arms, the police said.

Immediately after she saw a train approaching, Renuka got off the platform and lied over the tracks, holding her daughter close to her. Before the motorman could apply brakes, one coach of the train had passed over her and her daughter. The two were rushed to hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

Navghar police have arrested Renuka’s husband, Rahul Pintu Singh Yadav, based on a complaint registered by Renuka’s father, Jageshwar Babulal Yadav.

In his complaint to the police, Jageshwar Yadav said that Renuka was in an abusive relationship, with her husband harassing her over the past four years of their marriage.

“Pintu is a cloth vendor and the family lived decently, but he would constantly beat Renuka up asking her to get money from her parents to buy him a Bullet (motorcycle),’’ said an official from Navghar police station.

“The two hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Pintu lived in a rented accommodation at Gavdevi chawl in Bhayander, but he didn’t bring his wife along until six months ago. The two would constantly fight over it.”

“Even after Renuka moved with Pintu, the couple continued to fight. He would reiterate his demand often beat her up asking her to get money from her father to that he could purchase a bike,” said Assistant Police Inspector Tikaram Thatkar of Navghar police station, who is investigating the case.

Thatkar said that on the day she committed suicide, the couple had a fight. She left her home in a fit of rage and headed to the station. The police have booked Pintu under IPC section 498 for domestic violence and section 306 for abetment of suicide.
